Are you the sporty type? Below is my review of women's athletic shoes
What To Look For In Women's Athletics Shoes
Women's athletic shoes are an integral part of any woman's tool kit. It does not matter what competency of athlete you are, from pro to recreational sports woman, you need the right shoe if you are going to perform at your best and avoid injury and muscle soreness. Here are some things you should consider.
Your Foot Type
If you are serious about sport, it is a great idea to get your feet checked out by a qualified technician. Foot doctors like podiatrists and orthotists are great places to start. If you do not want to pay for their services, some specialized shoe stores like The Athletes Foot come a close second best.
Understanding the mechanics of your specific set of feet will lead you to understanding the class of shoe which is good for your feet. This is extremely important if you love to play and not just for your feet. We all walk differently. When we get involved in athletics and sports, the impact we put on our feet is much greater than walking. This impact reverberates from your feet, through your ankles, knees, hips, back and into your neck. Your entire skeletal system is affected by the impact of your feet hitting the ground. Getting the right athletics shoe for your foot type will not only enhance your foot comfort, it will likely prevent many a structural injury and strain.
This is the most important consideration for you if you are out looking for athletics shoes.
Comfort
I see a foot specialist once a year. I wear orthotics when I compete. Each year when it comes time to get a new pair of athletics shoes, I ask my doctor out of the current range of sneakers available, which models are the best for my feet. He will give me a list of five or six brands and tell me to buy the pair which feels most comfortable.
Once you understand your foot type, do not underestimate the importance of comfort. Our bodies are wonderful. Through pleasure it tells you if you are doing good or bad things to it. A comfortable shoe is a shoe your body is approving, telling you it is a good fit, a well structured shoe for your feet. If you have a choice, always pick the most comfortable shoe.
Purpose and Support
Some sports we are involved in have different requirements to other. For example, a shoe for a woman playing basketball serves a much different purpose than a shoe being worn by another doing distance running. The first needs to be much more robust, supporting itself and the women's ankles during high impact movements and pivots. The later though needs to be much lighter, providing comfort for low impact movement, albeit over a much longer period of activity. You need to think about the activity you are participating in and match your athletic shoe to that purpose. Fortunately athletic shoes do come in sub categories, so the manufacturers make this easy for us.
